We stock and install BFT-compatible hinge and roller replacements for Dallas gates, with most jobs running $220 – $410 installed and completed same-day when the part is on our truck. Owners usually discover a failed hinge or roller the same way: the gate drags, scrapes, or leans a few degrees and suddenly won’t close square against the receiver. The good news is this is one of the most straightforward BFT repairs we do, and we carry the common sizes so you’re not waiting on a shipment from a distributor.
Which BFT Models This Applies To
BFT puts their name on swing gates, slide gates, and the operators that drive them, but the hinge and roller hardware is where we see most of the wear. On BFT swing gates, the hinges are typically bolt-on steel or stainless units sized to the leaf weight: light residential leaves up to about 600 lb use a 4-inch hinge, and heavier or commercial leaves run 5-inch or 6-inch. Rollers show up on BFT slide gate tracks, and the diameter and wheel material matter more than the model sticker: 4-inch and 6-inch steel-core rollers are the common ones we replace in Dallas neighborhoods.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha: BFT doesn’t manufacture the hinges and rollers themselves. They source them, which means a “BFT hinge” can actually be one of two or three different OEM suppliers depending on the year the gate was installed. We match by measurement (leaf weight, hinge barrel diameter, roller wheel width and axle size), not just by the BFT badge. For most residential Dallas gates, a quality aftermarket steel or stainless hinge does the job as well as the original at about 60% of the Porsche-price OEM part. For heavy commercial leaves, we recommend staying with the original supplier’s part.

Signs Your BFT Hinge & Roller Replacement Is Failing
- The gate scrapes the ground or drags on one side. The hinge pin or roller axle has worn enough that the leaf sits lower than it should. On Dallas clay soil that shifts with rain and drought, this usually shows up first at the latch side.
- The gate leans or sags when it’s open. That lean means the hinge barrel or pin has play in it. A gate that leans a couple of inches under its own weight is putting extra stress on the operator arm.
- You can lift or wiggle the gate leaf by hand. A healthy hinge has no vertical movement. If you can rock the leaf up and down, the pin or bushing is done.
- The gate creaks or groans moving through its arc. Metal-on-metal grinding means the grease is gone and the surfaces are wearing. Grease can buy you a few weeks, but the underlying slop won’t fix itself.
- The operator strains or trips the entrapment sensor mid-cycle. When a hinge or roller binds, the motor draws more current and the safety circuit reads that as an obstruction. People often blame the operator when the real problem is the hardware underneath.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Dallas, residential BFT hinge replacement typically runs $220 – $340 installed per pair, and slide gate rollers land at $190 – $410 depending on wheel size and whether the track needs shimming. The bigger cost drivers are leaf weight (a 12-foot steel gate eats 6-inch hinges, which cost more), whether we’re working on brick columns or steel posts, and whether the sag has already damaged the operator arm. Every quote we write includes the parts, the labor, and the adjustment to get the gate closing square again. The price you get on the phone or at the door is the price on the invoice. And if the part fails within a year, the 365-Day Done Right Promise means we come back and make it right at no charge.
DIY or Call Us?
Here’s the honest split. If your BFT gate is still closing and you just want to know what’s wrong, you can safely check for visible play: lift the leaf, watch for hinge slop, and inspect roller wheels for flat spots. That tells you which part is failing. Where DIY goes wrong is the swap itself: a sagging gate leaf can weigh hundreds of pounds, and if you unbolt the wrong hinge first, that weight can come down on you before you react. For swing gates, we use a jack stand or a second pair of hands to support the leaf while we swap hinges one at a time. For slide gates, the track and roller spacing has to be reset precisely or the gate will bind worse than before. If you’d rather not hold 600 lb of steel while threading a bolt, call (361) 322-4460 and we’ll send a tech named and photo’d before arrival.
FAQs
In Dallas weather, expect 7 – 10 years from original BFT hinge hardware and 5 – 7 years from slide gate rollers, with heat and clay-soil shifting cutting into that lifespan. Gates on Preston Hollow or Lakewood properties that see 10+ cycles a day wear faster than weekend-use gates.
Sometimes a hinge just needs a new pin and bushing, which runs about $60 – $110 less than a full hinge replacement, but only if the barrel itself isn’t wallowed out. We’ll tell you honestly on site; if the hinge body is still tight, we repair it and save you the part cost. Call (361) 322-4460 for a straight answer.
Most BFT hinge replacements take 45 – 90 minutes, and roller swaps on slide gates run 30 – 60 minutes once we’re on site. We book the job with the part matched to your measurements so there’s no second visit for the right size.
We stock common BFT-compatible hinge sizes (4, 5, and 6 inch) and slide rollers (4 and 6 inch steel-core) on the truck, along with parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls gates. If your gate needs a heavier commercial size or a stainless upgrade, we’ll have it in hand before we schedule the job.
