BFT keypad and intercom repair in Dallas typically runs $185 to $460 installed, depending on whether we’re replacing the keypad membrane, the intercom module, or the full unit. Most jobs are done in one visit because we stock common BFT keypads and intercom parts on the truck. You’ll usually notice the problem when the keypad stops accepting certain digits, the intercom audio goes scratchy or dead, or the gate simply won’t respond to a code that worked last week.
BFT makes solid equipment, but the Dallas heat does a number on outdoor electronics. We see failed keypads most often on gates that face west and get hammered by afternoon sun from June through September. The plastic keypad housing expands and contracts, and eventually moisture creeps in and corrodes the contact traces underneath the buttons. You’ll hear the beep, but the signal never reaches the control board. That’s the classic BFT keypad failure pattern we see in neighborhoods like Lakewood, Preston Hollow, and Oak Cliff.
Which BFT Models This Applies To
BFT keypads and intercoms are not universal. The part you need depends on whether your system runs on the older MITTO series or the newer DEIMOS and RIGEL lines. The MITTO keypad, sometimes labeled as the MITTO COOL or MITTO REPLAY, was everywhere in Dallas subdivisions built between 2005 and 2015. It uses a 433 MHz rolling-code signal. The DEIMOS BT and RIGEL 5 keypads run on a different frequency and use the newer encrypted protocol, so you cannot swap a DEIMOS keypad onto a MITTO receiver without replacing the receiver too. That’s the single most common compatibility mistake we correct.
Identifying your part is straightforward if you know where to look. Pop the keypad’s lower cover or unscrew the faceplate and you’ll find a white label with the model number printed small. It’ll say something like MITTO COOL, DEIMOS BT, or RIGEL 5. If the label has sun-bleached past legibility, take a clear photo with your phone and we’ll match it from the shape and button layout. On the intercom side, BFT’s THALIA and LUX lines are the usual suspects in Dallas gated communities, and they fail differently from the keypads. We’ll get to that.
One more thing worth knowing: BFT’s OEM keypads are well made, but the aftermarket equivalents from brands like Nice and FAAC rarely fit the mounting holes or wiring harness without modification. We install OEM BFT parts when they’re available and factory-compatible aftermarket options only when there’s a genuine reason to, like a discontinued model. We’re an independent service provider, not a BFT dealer, which means we stock what actually fails in Dallas rather than what a catalog tells us to carry.

Signs Your BFT Keypad & Intercom Repair Is Failing
- Some digits work and some don’t. This usually means the carbon contact under that specific button has worn through or the membrane has cracked. You’ll find yourself pressing the “3” three times to get one beep. The fix is a new keypad membrane or keypad, not a control board.
- The intercom audio cuts out mid-sentence. On BFT intercoms, the speaker wire is the first thing to fatigue where it flexes at the hinge of the call box. Guests hear you, you hear static, and then nothing. It’s a wiring repair plus a speaker check, not a full system replacement.
- Codes work but only from ten feet away. That’s a dying transmitter battery or a degraded antenna on the receiver board. BFT receivers lose range slowly, and most owners don’t notice until the keypad only opens the gate from the driveway.
- The keypad beeps but the gate ignores it. This is the most frustrating one. The keypad is sending, the receiver is getting power, but the relay on the control board isn’t closing. It’s usually a $40 relay fix on the board, not a new keypad.
- Moisture inside the keypad face. You can see fog or water droplets behind the buttons. That keypad is on borrowed time. The circuit board is actively corroding, and it will fail completely, usually on a rainy morning when you’re already late.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Here’s the straight pricing picture for Dallas. A new BFT-compatible keypad installed runs $185 to $310 depending on the model. If your system needs the intercom module replaced rather than repaired, that job lands between $260 and $460. The range exists because a RIGEL 5 keypad costs more than a MITTO membrane, and every gate’s wiring situation is a little different. Some Dallas homes have had three different owners, three different gate companies, and a rat’s nest of splices behind the keypad.
Every quote includes the part, the labor, the wiring cleanup, and a function test of the whole system before we leave. We write the price down before any work starts, and that number doesn’t change unless you ask us to add something. The repair is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it fails within a year, we come back and make it right at no charge. That’s the whole deal, in writing, every time.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely do a few checks yourself. Pop the keypad cover and look for obvious corrosion or ant nests. Listen for the beep. Try the code from different distances. Those diagnostics help us bring the right part on the first trip. But actual wiring work on a BFT keypad or intercom means working inside a low-voltage circuit that ties into the gate’s main control board. One crossed wire and you’re replacing a $350 board instead of a $40 relay. If you’re comfortable with a multimeter and understand normally-open versus normally-closed contacts, this is within your reach. If those words didn’t sound familiar, call us before you open the panel.
Tell me what it’s doing wrong, and I’ll tell you what it costs to fix it – before I touch a thing. That’s not a slogan; it’s how we run every job, and it’s the rule Cole Rafferty set for the whole Dallas crew. Call (361) 322-4460 and describe the symptom. We’ll bring the part, the price, and the tech’s name and photo before he knocks.
FAQs
A BFT keypad lasts 7 to 10 years in Dallas if it’s shaded, and 4 to 6 years if it faces afternoon sun unprotected. The heat and UV cycle is what kills the membrane and housing. A keypad under a small cover or in a shaded entry consistently outlasts an exposed one.
Sometimes, yes. If the failure is just one worn button contact or a cracked membrane, we can replace the membrane and save the housing. If the board itself is corroded or the housing is cracked and letting in water, replacement is the honest call. We’ll quote both options when both exist. Call (361) 322-4460 and we’ll tell you which way yours goes.
Most keypad replacements take 45 to 90 minutes including testing. An intercom module swap runs 1 to 2 hours because there’s more wiring and a speaker check involved. We do it in one visit when we know the model ahead of time, which is why we ask for that photo of the label.
We stock the BFT parts that fail most in Dallas: MITTO keypads, DEIMOS BT keypads, RIGEL 5 keypads, common intercom speakers, and receiver relays. If you need a discontinued BFT part, we source it through our parts network and schedule the install once it’s in hand. We also keep compatible parts on hand for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls systems for the days when a customer calls us for one gate and asks about the second one. Call (361) 322-4460 with your model number and we’ll confirm stock before you book.
