BFT gate motor replacement in Dallas typically runs $650 to $1,450 installed, depending on whether you need the full motor unit or just the control board and capacitor. We stock BFT-compatible motors and parts on the truck and can usually have your gate running the same day we arrive. Most owners discover the motor has failed when the gate stops responding to remotes, makes a grinding noise but doesn’t move, or trips the breaker every time it tries to open. Tell me what it’s doing wrong, and I’ll tell you what it costs to fix it – before I touch a thing.
Which BFT Models This Applies To
We replace motors across the BFT line we see in Dallas neighborhoods: the Deimos, Phobos, and Pluto swing-gate series, plus the Aries, Rigel, and Sub sliding-gate operators. The key to matching the right replacement is the silver data plate on the side of the motor housing. That plate tells you the model, the torque rating in Newton-meters, and whether it’s a 115V or 24V unit. BFT changed motor housing dimensions across production years, so a motor from a 2012 Deimos BT won’t always drop into a 2019 Deimos BT A25 without a mounting bracket swap. That’s the compatibility gotcha that catches owners trying to match parts on their own.
On the OEM versus aftermarket question for BFT: BFT’s Italian engineering is solid, but OEM replacement motors carry a premium that doesn’t always buy you longer life in Dallas heat. We keep both OEM BFT motors and quality aftermarket equivalents from brands like All-O-Matic and US Automatic on the truck. For most residential gates in Dallas, a properly spec’d aftermarket motor with the correct capacitor kit outlasts the original because it’s rated for continuous duty in high ambient temperatures. The original BFT capacitors are usually the first component to fail here – they swell and leak after three or four Texas summers.
A note on who we are: Warden Gate Repair Dallas is an independent service provider. We’re factory-trained on BFT equipment, but we’re not affiliated with BFT or its parent company. That independence means we can put the right part on your gate without pushing a brand-specific upsell.

Signs Your BFT Gate Motor Replacement Is Failing
- Gate hums but never moves. You hear the motor winding up, but the gate stays put. That’s usually a failed start capacitor – the part that gives the motor its initial push. We replace the capacitor for a fraction of a motor swap when we catch it early.
- Gate opens halfway and reverses. The motor’s thermal overload is tripping because the windings are overheating. In Dallas, this shows up more in July and August when the ambient heat pushes motor temperatures past their limit. A motor doing this is near the end.
- Remotes work, but the keypad doesn’t. This isn’t always the motor itself – it can be the BFT control board receiving power but not processing the keypad signal. We test the board and the motor separately so we don’t sell you a motor you don’t need.
- Breaker trips every time the gate runs. The motor is drawing more amps than the circuit allows, which means internal winding damage or a seized gearbox. This is the one where we recommend stopping use right away – a tripped breaker is the gate telling you something’s seriously wrong.
- Visible corrosion around the motor housing. Dallas humidity and the occasional ice storm do a number on outdoor electronics. If you see rust trails running down from the motor casing or condensation inside the housing, water has gotten in. It’s a matter of time, not if, before that motor fails.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Here’s the real pricing for BFT gate motor replacement in Dallas, laid out so you know what you’re paying for before you call:
- Capacitor replacement: $95-$180 installed. This fixes about 30% of the “dead motor” calls we get.
- Control board replacement: $275-$525 installed, depending on whether your BFT has a single or dual gate and what board generation it needs.
- Full motor replacement (swing or slide): $650-$1,250 installed, including the motor, new capacitor, labor, and a written guarantee.
- Motor plus new gearbox internals: $850-$1,450 installed. Only needed when the gear teeth have stripped, which we see on older BFT Pluto models that were never lubricated.
Every price above is a written price you agree to before we start. No line-item surprises at the end. You’ll also get the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the replacement fails within a year, the return visit to fix it is free. That’s our standard on every BFT job in Dallas.
DIY or Call Us?
BFT gate motors run on 110V or 220V household current, and they’re mounted on a gate that can weigh 400 pounds or more. This is not a safe DIY job. What you can safely check: is the breaker on, is the manual release lever disengaged, and is the motor getting power at the outlet. Those three checks catch about 15% of the “dead gate” calls we get, and they cost you nothing. Past that point, you’re working with live voltage near a heavy moving gate leaf – that’s where we say call someone with training and insurance.
If you want to check for yourself before calling, hit the breaker and the manual release. If the gate still won’t move and you hear humming from the motor, it’s the capacitor or the windings. Either way, call us at (361) 322-4460 and we’ll get a tech out to your Dallas property, usually the same day.
FAQs
How long does a BFT gate motor last in Dallas? A BFT gate motor in Dallas typically lasts 5 to 8 years, with capacitors failing at the 3 to 4 year mark. The Texas heat shortens motor life by about 20 to 25 percent compared to cooler climates because the winding insulation breaks down faster under repeated high-temperature cycles. If your gate runs more than 15 cycles a day, expect the shorter end of that range. Call (361) 322-4460 and we’ll help you figure out where your motor is in its lifespan.
Can a failing BFT motor be repaired instead of replaced? Sometimes, yes. If the capacitor is swollen or the control board has a bad relay, we can repair those components without replacing the whole motor. If the windings are burnt or the gearbox has stripped teeth, replacement is the honest fix. We’ll tell you which one applies to your gate before we start any work.
How long does a BFT motor replacement take? A standard BFT gate motor replacement takes 1 to 2 hours from arrival to test cycle. If we’re also replacing the board and wiring, plan on 2 to 3 hours. We carry BFT motors and capacitors on our Dallas trucks, so there’s no second trip waiting on parts for most models.
Do you stock BFT parts on the truck, or do you have to order them? We stock BFT Deimos, Phobos, Pluto, and Aries motor replacements plus capacitors and control boards on the truck. For less common models or specific OEM parts, we can usually have them in 1 to 3 business days from our supplier. When we schedule the visit, we’ll confirm exactly what’s coming with the tech.
